Escape the heat with the newest issue of The Southern Review! You can visit the Italian countryside with Piera Ventre’s “The Ghosts of Munfrá,” recall a season abroad with Debbie Urbanski’s “London,” or relive your roughest camping memories through an encounter with a mountain lion in Kashona Notah’s “Arrowhead Springs.” Pulitzer Prize winner and former U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith makes her Southern Review debut with three poems, while Joshua Bennett returns to our pages with two poems about Black artists and watching Star Trek with his father. Along with new poetry by Anemone Beaulier, David Lehman, and Cleopatra Mathis, the issue features the artwork of REWA, whose Igbo vernacular art is a celebration of the Igbo people, their traditions, and their narratives, particularly those of women—accurately portrayed as pivotal forces within Igbo cultural rites and traditions.
